If the English language made any sense, the word 'lackadaisical' would have something
to do with a shortage of flowers.
Four Kinds of English
It is often said that there are four kinds of English. Let's look at them.
Movie English - This is the kind of English you hear in films and TV shows. It sounds very dramatic or emotional because it’s written for entertainment, not real life. It helps you understand culture, tone, and expressions, but people don’t always talk like that in reality. It's great for learning natural expressions, tone, and rhythm, but not always realistic for polite or professional situations.
Example: You gotta be kidding me! I’m done playing games.
Street English - Street English is the slang-filled language people use casually with friends or in pop culture. It changes quickly and is full of trendy words and phrases. It’s great for sounding natural with peers, but not appropriate in formal or professional settings. It helps you sound natural with peers, but sounds unprofessional or even rude in formal contexts.
Examples: What’s up, bro? That party was lit! No cap, that’s crazy.
Conversational English - This is normal, everyday spoken English, the English that people use in daily life. It’s friendly, natural, and practical, focusing on clear communication rather than perfect grammar. It’s what you need for travel, casual chats, and social situations.
Examples: Hey, how’s it going? I haven’t seen you in ages! Let’s grab a coffee sometime.
Business English - Business English is formal and polite. It’s used in professional environments like meetings, emails, and interviews. It focuses on clarity, respect, and professionalism, often using specialized vocabulary for work-related topics. Business English is essential for international work, professional networking, and career advancement.
Examples: Let’s schedule a meeting to discuss next quarter’s targets. I appreciate your prompt response. Please clarify your point.
